Message from a dream
Sometimes people become so unfulfilled because they think they’re meant to do something or be something bigger, when the biggest thing they could possibly do is love.
I woke up this morning from a discombobulated dream that somehow ended with that clear message.
This isn’t about trying to convince anyone to be less ambitious. Rather, I interpret it as something that helps bring out our best given whatever level of ambition or interests we have.
The question is — how do you define love? And more importantly, what are the different ways you could love? Maybe it’s learning about the dreams your family members and close friends have and helping them live out their full potential. Maybe it’s sharing what you have with those who are less fortunate in terms of environment, knowledge, or circumstance. Maybe it’s offering a helping hand to a neighbor or a stranger you encounter (in person or virtually, in today's COVID world) during the course of your day. And yes, for those more ambitious, scaling your impact to benefit more than you could’ve ever imagined. It’s not a competition, who could love more. (But if that serves as motivation for you, harness and use it for the greater good!)
If you listen only to the voice inside you (the true voice, not the inner critic that’s been placed there by society), what does that voice say about how you can love right now with what you have? Forget any “should’s” that come up. Because whatever that voice tells you is the thing. It is not a coincidence — these talents, knowledge, personality, and hobbies that you have. You are already so equipped to love and love in a big way, your own way.
So go do it! Go do that thing you know deep down is love. Not because you should or even necessarily because you want to. Do it simply because you can.
